Five miles of rocky coast
line, between the head-lands of
Punta Mesco and the cape of
Monte Nero, endless dry-stone
was, vineyard terraces and olive
grouvs.
Sheer clifs rising above the sea,
coves between the rocks and five
villages clining to the
shoreline, this are the striking
features of the
Cinque Terre lands
cape.
In 1997 the
Cinque Terre was declared by Unesco a national park
to protect
and preserve the landscape of the
Cinque
Terre with all its culture, history
and natural beauty.
The shorre and sea-bed are equally safe
guarded to preserve the numerous
species of fish and their natural
habitat, with strict regulation of
maritime traffic.
